But every heater shared the same limitation. No matter how well it produced heat, it couldn’t operate on its own.
Every unit depended on an outside source of electricity; a vehicle battery, a portable power station, or a solar setup. If that power source failed, the heater stopped working too.
We believed there had to be a better way.

Seven Years to Solve One Problem.
Turning that vision into reality wasn’t simple.
Creating a heater capable of generating its own electricity required more than improving an existing design. It meant rethinking how portable heating should work from the ground up.
Over the next seven years, our engineers researched, designed, tested, and refined a completely new approach to portable heating.
Three generations of prototypes were built and evaluated, with every version improving power generation, heat management, reliability, efficiency, noise reduction, and overall performance.
The greatest engineering challenge was integrating thermoelectric power generation into a compact diesel heater.
The system needed to generate enough electricity to power the heater’s electronics, operate the fan, recharge its batteries, and remain safe, efficient, dependable, and practical for real-world use.
After years of testing and refinement, that vision became reality.

Houswin was not created overnight. It took years of research, engineering, testing, and refinement to turn the idea of a self-powered diesel heater into a reliable product.

The journey began with a simple problem: conventional diesel heaters depended on a continuous external power source.
That meant a heater could produce plenty of heat and still stop working if the battery, power station, or solar system supplying it ran out of power.
Wayne Hou believed the market needed something more useful than another conventional diesel heater. He saw an opportunity to create a heater that could generate the electricity it needed while operating.
Seven Years of Development
The self-powered heating system required seven years of research, engineering, testing, and improvement.
During that time, the team worked to combine diesel heating with thermoelectric power generation in a system that was safe, compact, stable, and practical.
The goal was not simply to prove the concept.
The goal was to build a product people could depend on in the real world.
Three Generations of Prototypes
Three generations of prototypes were developed and tested. Each generation helped improve important parts of the system, including:

Every prototype brought Houswin closer to a heater that could produce enough electricity to operate its fan and controls while also recharging its batteries.
June 2023 — The First Houswin Heater Launches
In June 2023, Houswin launched its first self-powered portable diesel heater in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The launch marked the transition from years of development into a practical commercial product designed for customers who need dependable heat away from conventional power.
It also introduced many customers to a type of heater they had never seen before.
August 2024 — U.S. Patent Awarded
In August 2024, the technology behind Houswin’s self-powered heating system was awarded a U.S. patent.
The patent recognized the uniqueness of the design and protected the original technology developed through years of research and engineering.
It also created a foundation for Houswin to continue investing in future products built around self-powered heating and off-grid energy generation.
Today — Building the Self-Powered Heating Category
Today, Houswin is working to establish self-powered heating as a new product category.
The company continues to improve its products, grow its dealer network, reach new customers, and develop additional solutions based on its energy-generation technology.
That started as one question has become a much larger mission:
